VINTAGE STRATTON COMPACTS
Excellent to mint condition vintage compacts

Delectable Stratton Compacts!  Wonderful shapes, colors and designs.  Vintage Stratton compacts' quality cannot be beat.  Still as usable today as when they were first introduced.  Don't wear foundation or powder?  Doesn't matter!  A girl always needs a mirror!

Stratton compacts were produced by Laughton & Sons Ltd. of Birmingham, England from 1923.  The earliest compacts were signed "Stratnoid" which was also the tradename for their knitting needles.  In 1997 they were taken over by Cork International.  Although they are still making compacts, they are no longer made in Britain and the quality is not the same.

DATING YOUR STRATTON COMPACT

If your compact has a self-opening inner lid, it was made after 1948.

If your compact is convertible or takes a cream powder, it dates from at least the 1950's.

If your compact has the famous "Compact in Hand" logo on the inner lid, it was made from 1950 to 1970.  The "Compact in Hand" mark indicates the compact has a self-opening inner lid.  This was patented in 1948 and is unique to Stratton compacts.  It helped prevent damage to fingernails.

Information on Stratton Compacts comes from POWDER COMPACTS - A Collector's Guide by Julliette Edwards.
